How to Cook Perfect Over-Easy or Over-Hard Eggs
Cooking over-easy or over-hard eggs is a great way to enjoy a classic breakfast with the yolk cooked just the way you like it. Here’s how you can achieve perfection with these easy steps.
Ingredients:
- 2 eggs (or as many as you like)
- 2 teaspoons of butter (or oil)
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
Steps:
1. Heat the Pan
- HEAT 2 teaspoons of butter in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat until the butter is hot but not burning. The butter should foam up slightly.
2. Break and Add the Eggs
- BREAK the eggs gently and SLIP them into the pan, one at a time. Make sure you crack the eggs close to the pan to avoid breaking the yolks.
- IMMEDIATELY reduce the heat to low to prevent the eggs from cooking too quickly and to ensure a soft, tender white.
3. How To Cook Perfect the Eggs
COOK SLOWLY until the whites are completely set, but the yolks are still runny for over-easy eggs. This usually takes about 2–3 minutes.
For over-hard eggs, cook a bit longer until the yolks are fully set.
4. Flip the Eggs (Optional)
Once the whites are set and yolks have started to thicken, gently flip the eggs using a spatula. For over-easy eggs, flip them carefully and cook for an additional 15–30 seconds to slightly cook the top without hardening the yolk.
For over-hard eggs, flip and cook for about 1–2 minutes until the yolk is completely firm.
5. Serve
- Once cooked to your liking, remove the eggs from the skillet and serve them hot. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Tips for Success:
- Always reduce the heat to low after adding the eggs to avoid overcooking the whites or burning them.
- For over-easy eggs, be gentle while flipping to keep the yolks from breaking.
